SOP for Operation of Cooling Towers

  • OBJECTIVE:
    • To lay down the procedure for operation of cooling towers installed on Terrace area of Service area
  • SCOPE:
    • This SOP is applicable to operation of cooling towers installed on Terrace area of Service area.
  • RESPONSIBILITY:
    • Technician/ Operator of Engineering Department shall be responsible for proper execution of operation as per SOP.
    • Engineering – Head shall be responsible for reviewing the SOP and for ensuring proper execution as per SOP.
  • ACCOUNTABILITY:
    • Head – Engineering shall be accountable for proper implementation of the SOP.
  • DEFINITIONS:

  • PROCEDURE:
  • Pre Check to start  up cooling tower:
    • Check, the water level in the cooling tower sump it should be above the minimum water level.
    • Check that float valve is operating properly.
    • Check the fan blade and fan motor for proper working.
    • Check the strainer inlet and out let valves are opened, and bypass valve is closed.
    • Check chiller’s condenser inlet and outlet valves are opened.
    • Check the cooling tower water inlet (return from condenser) valve is opened.
    • Check the main switch of control panel, it should be ON.
    • Once in a week check the TDS level in cooling water circulation is should not be more than 2000 ppm.
    • To prevent the corrosion, scaling and microbial fouling, following chemicals are added in basin of cooling towers are as follows.

  • To start  cooling tower:
    • Start the cooling tower fan from electrical panel by pressing start (Green) push button.
    • Start the cooling tower pump from the electrical panel by pressing the start (Green) push button.
  • To stop cooling tower:
    • Stop the cooling tower fan from the electrical panel by pressing the stop (Red) push button.
    • Stop the cooling tower pump from the electrical panel by pressing the stop (Red) push button.
    • Close the all relevant in and out valve.
    • Record the activity for operation of HVAC Cooling Tower as per Format No. SOP/EN/XXXYYY. The recording should be done after every two hours, this format  is applicable in case of break down; for following parameters
    • Record the activity for operation of Lyophilizer Cooling Tower as per Format No. SOP/EN/XXXYYY. The recording should be done after every two hours, this format  is applicable in case of break down; for following parameters

    • Cooling Tower Stop Time

    • TDS           :     Total Dissolved Solids

  • DISTRIBUTION LIST:
    • SOP shall be distributed to following departments Quality Assurance, Engineering as per user request.
